Project H - Eta

Book Cover

INTRO: Rebuilt from the ashes of a past failure, this project stands as proof that mistakes can be redesigned, refined, and reborn. Once a blemish on the designer's record, it's now a mark of evolution. Conceived and executed in secrecy, like a classified operation, this book cover hides its complexity beneath a deceptively simple face.

It looks quiet, maybe even suspiciously so. But that's exactly how it likes to operate. Don't let the clean design fool you, it's got a story to tell, and it's not confessing easily.

About Book Jacket

Thanasphere (Kurt Vonnegut) tells the story of Lieutenant Allen Rice, who is on a U.S. Air Force space mission and begins hearing strange voices while orbiting Earth. He hears a variety of voices, including the cries of children and the voices of the deceased, which unsettles him mentally. However, on the ground, the U.S. government and military agencies try to conceal this fact, highlighting the conflict between military objectives and human experience.

The font on the front evokes the feel of an old classified file, while the supporting text uses simple, legible typography. The color palette is minimal and document-like, emphasizing clarity and a professional tone.

Old Work

This is an older book cover design inspired by the flames of a rocket engine. It felt rough and lacked visual balance, so I decided to redesign it.

Idea & Inspirations

The redesign was based on the concept of a classified document that reflects the novel’s mysterious tone. I collected several reference images online to build the visual direction.

Sketches

After researching and gathering ideas, I began sketching multiple layout possibilities. These sketches helped define the overall structure and atmosphere of the new design.

Draft

One of the sketches was developed into a digital draft for refinement. This stage allowed me to explore typography and color combinations more deeply.

Finalize

The final design was completed through feedback from my professor and classmates. I focused on achieving a cleaner layout and a stronger visual identity.
